The largest fire for an unknown reason occurred in Essen (the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia in western Germany). The flames engulfed a large residential complex (LC) and destroyed 50 apartments there, and then spread along the chain to other houses.

All city firefighters were alerted. As a result of the emergency, according to them, a whole residential area was engulfed in fire.

Initially, three victims were reported, but by morning there were at least 100 of them. According to AFP, firefighters were met by huge flames that prevented them from entering the LCD.

Hospitalized patients have carbon monoxide poisoning, writes Focus.
Journalists and social media users in the comments about the unprecedented incident speak only of “fiery inferno”. Residents of surviving buildings in the area were asked not to open windows and doors due to heavy smoke.
