Immunomodulators, supposedly improving the state of the immune system, cannot protect against coronavirus, SARS or influenza, said immunologist Nikolay Kryuchkov, Candidate of Medical Sciences.
As the specialist said, these drugs can affect certain “links” of immunity, but this effect does not mean that the person taking the drug acquires protection against SARS, influenza or coronavirus infection, and does not indicate the clinical effectiveness of such drugs.
According to Kryuchkov, there is currently no reliable evidence that the likelihood of contracting an infection after taking immunomodulators is reduced, RIA Novosti reports. At the same time, these drugs, presumably, cannot harm health either. “The chances that they will harm you are small, but they will almost certainly not help you. You should not spend money on such drugs, ”the expert summed up.
