The search for the disappeared by avalanche continues in the snowy Chimborazo

Authorities reported that the twenty hikers who got lost in the El Altar volcano, in the province of Chimborazo, were rescued alive.

The Chimborazo authorities offered a list of the thirteen people affected by an avalanche while ascending the Chimborazo volcano. Preliminarily, the emergency entities reported the death of at least four people.

According to the list of the National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE), the identity of three of the deceased was confirmed. They are Gregory Coro, from Pifo; Kléver Gualavisi, from Cayambe; and Vanessa Villalba, from Quito, all from the province of Pichincha.

Those who are still missing are José Parra, from Quito, and Bryan Tafur and Jaime Jácome, from Cayambe.

Likewise, those rescued have been identified as Ana Chora (Quito), Ángel Gualavisi (Cayambe), Fernando Hurtado (Ibarra), Fernando Moya (Cayambe), Juan Toro (Quito), Rómel Yépez (Ibarra) and Elizabeth Zurita (Sangolquí).

María José Pontón, governor of Chimborazo, highlighted the immediate action of different organizations to help in the rescue tasks, while calling for the co-responsibility of tourists to avoid this type of episodes.

Colonel Víctor Ordóñez, commander of the Chimborazo Subzone N ° 6 of the Police, indicated that the bodies of the deceased were left anchored in order to carry out the extraction this Monday, also in the early hours of today they would begin with the tasks of search for the missing depending on weather conditions.
