The infection rate continues to decline in the country. The second week of this 2022 there was a report of about 51,000 virus infections, while last week the contagion was set at approximately 19,000 people, and the downward trend continues.
Attention also decreased: from 53,000 they have dropped to 5,200, that is, not even 10%. Juan Zapata, head of the COE at the national level, during his visit to Manta, stressed that he aims to reactivate the country.
These are the new resolutions issued by the National COE this February 17, 2022
“Therefore, what we want on this holiday is for the country to reactivate, for this city of Manta to reactivate, for them to come, to visit, but without neglecting the measures, because we still have to maintain this. God willing, as the Minister (of Health) said, at the end of March or the first weeks of April, well, depending on the situation, if we drop below 5% of the positivity rate (she did not indicate the figure that implies that percentage), well, and to be able to remove the mask in open spaces,” Zapata declared.
He said that for this, during the next carnival holiday, the support of citizens is again required. Zapata considered that co-responsibility is fundamental, since the pandemic is not over, and it depends on everyone to take care of that percentage of decrease in infections and thus be able to announce the withdrawal of the use of masks in open spaces.
“We already have 84% of people vaccinated with two doses, and that, well, has been a fundamental shield that has saved lives, so we are, I think, on the right path. The decisions of the COE have been appropriate, and that time proved us right, because the figures are the lowest during the entire pandemic. And most importantly: we have already opened the southern border, Huaquillas and Macará, that gives the indication that in Ecuador at this moment all the activities that we had open before the pandemic are open, ”said Zapata.
The head of ECU911 also thanked the 221 municipalities of the country for the support given during the pandemic for the application of the provisions of the COE at the national level. (I)
