Quevedo, THE RIVERS

Carlos GV, 31 years old, was arrested in a sector of the El Empalme canton, province of Guayas, on the morning of this Thursday, February 17.

In a press conference that was held at the Quevedo District command, agents from the Highly Dangerous Persons Investigation Unit required by law, announced the capture of the second most wanted in the province of Los Ríos.

According to the versions of the agents who participated in this operation, called Impacto 55, the detainee had been wanted since 2011 on suspicion of being the perpetrator of the triple murder of a family that lived on the María José farm, located in the Balseiro complex of Quinsaloma canton, in Los Ríos.

This event occurred on August 4 of the aforementioned year and as part of the defendants were former assemblyman Galo Lara and his partner, Carolina Llanos.

Since 2011, the suspect had a valid arrest warrant with preventive detention for the crime of murder, the agents reported.

The three victims, members of the same family, including a 3-year-old minor, had their throats cut and their bodies were later thrown into the Umbe River. While the house where the crimes were committed was burned.

Found not guilty

In December 2021, former assemblyman Galo Lara was declared innocent, after the decision of three judges of the National Court of Justice.

When he was sentenced, it was said that Lara together with his wife Carolina Llanos, who also regained his freedom, had supposedly paid a large sum of money to Carlos GV, so that he would commit the crime.

In December 2012, the then legislator for the province of Los Ríos was declared innocent in this case; but in 2013, in an appeal hearing, the Prosecutor’s Office led by Galo Chiriboga managed to get Lara sentenced to ten years in prison as an accomplice to the murders.

The former legislator has maintained that he paid the price of oversight of the administration of the then President of the Republic, Rafael Correa, with jail. He considers what he experienced as a “political persecution”. (I)
