The question of when it is most profitable for pensioners to quit arises when calculating the indexation of the insurance pension, which is provided for non-working pensioners. Larisa Sorokina, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Economics of the RUDN University, Candidate of Economic Sciences, told about this in an interview with the PRIME agency.
According to her, taking into account the current methodology of calculations, other things being equal, it is more profitable to say goodbye to work by the end of the month.
As the expert pointed out, the Pension Fund of Russia (PFR) receives monthly information about employees from the employer. Lists of employees are transmitted in the form of a report based on the results of each calendar month by the 15th day of the next month. It does not matter the period of work during the month – one day or the whole month.
“Let’s look at an example. The first situation is that a working pensioner quit on March 1 (this day is considered the last working day). The second situation is that a working pensioner quit on March 31. In both the first and second situations, the FIU will receive information in April about the fact of the work of this person. And only in April this employee will not be in the lists of employed persons. The report for April will be received by the FIU in May,” Sorokina explained.
Thus, in June, according to her, a decision on indexation will be made, and in July indexation will be carried out. The additional payment will be calculated from April, when the pensioner received the status of “non-working”.
“That is, if a pensioner quits on February 28, indexation of his pension will be made in June, and the calculation of the additional payment will be made from March,” the expert emphasized.
In her opinion, if a pensioner plans to quit, it is better to say goodbye to work by the end of the month.
Recall also that earlier Sorokina indicated that those who have an insurance record of at least 42 and 37 years have the right to retire at the “old” retirement age, that is, upon reaching the age of 55 for women and 60 years for men. .
