The works carried out in the road interchange at the northern exit of Ambato force the suspension of the drinking water service that will affect around 10,000 users of the Municipal Potable Water and Sewage Company (Emapa) from different sectors of the Cunchibamba parishes , Unamuncho, Atahualpa, Martinez and Izamba. The cut will be between Friday 18 and Sunday 20 February.
Xavier Espinoza, manager of EMAPA, clarified that in the area where the road interchange is being worked on, the pipeline and distribution networks for drinking water pass to the north of Ambato, but that coordination was carried out with different institutions, as well as with the builder of the work so that the population is not left unattended.
He also reported that the loudspeaker and delivery of flyers is carried out so that the public is aware of the suspension of the liquid element so that they take the forecasts of the case, that in addition meetings were held with the presidents of the parish councils to coordinate the delivery of water through tankers.
Jorge Palma, an EMAPA technician, commented that the planning is expected to be completed within the established deadlines, in view of which once the Los Andes Consortium, the work’s contractor, communicates that the works scheduled for Friday and Saturday are finished, the pumping and filling of the pipes will begin.
Thus, it is expected that on Sunday morning the nearby sectors can already have the service again, but that it will take longer for distant areas.
For his part, Patricio Ávila, head of the Potable Water System of the Rural Zone of EMAPA, reported that there are 15 tankers that will distribute water to populations that will not have the service, for which he reported that the support even from the Ambato Fire Department and the Soldier Training School.
Luis Andrade, construction superintendent of the Los Andes Consortium, reported that within the construction of the road interchange at the intersection of Indoamérica Avenue with Pedro Vásconez Avenue, a 40-centimeter-diameter pipe passes that carries drinking water for the population of the five parishes, the one that will be cut and replaced by one that fits the geometry of the viaduct.
