In Colimes, an environmental agreement was signed for the conservation of the Daule river basin

In the framework of La Fuente Project: Protecting the Daule Basinfinanced by the European Union and implemented by the International Center for the Investigation of the El Niño Phenomenon (Ciifen), Fondagua, the Municipality of Guayaquil and the Casa Grande University, an environmental conservation agreement was signed with the community of the Colimes canton, Guayas, to support the sustainable management of water and natural resources in the Daule basin.

In addition, as part of this initiative, a reforestation activity was also carried out at the Las Colembas campus in conjunction with the Prefecture of Guayas. 1,440 plants of native tree species were planted, such as pechiche, fernán sánchez, white laurel, guayacán, among others.

This activity, in addition to rehabilitating this ecosystem, will unite and organize the community more in actions that protect biodiversity, and in the future, will contribute to the ecotourism initiative that wants to develop the site that will generate additional income for the community and a greater nature care awareness”, indicated during the meeting, Juan José Nieto, international director of Ciifen.

La Fuente Project will allow for a more fertile soil with more nutrients, healthier food and purer oxygen, added Amarilis Soledispa, president of the Nuevo Renacer Agricultural Association.

To date, an additional conservation agreement has been signed with the rural GAD of Guale, in the Paján canton, Manabí; and two additional agreements are about to be signed with the Cerro de la Cruz Producers Association and with the GAD of La Unión Santa Ana, in the Jipijapa canton, Manabí. (I)
