In less than a week, more than eleven tons of cocaine have been seized in one of the ports south of Guayaquil. On Sunday, seven tons were discovered in a container full of bananas; and then, between Wednesday and Thursday, there are already 4.5 tons of cocaine seized.
Inside a container in which teak was being transported to Belgium, 47 sacks with blocks of cocaine were found this Wednesday. There are more than 1,500 blocks that add up to 1.5 tons of the drug.
In the pre-shipment area of the maritime terminal, this Thursday, February 17, three more tons of cocaine were discovered that were in guayusa water bottles. The discovered drug is in a liquid state.
The Police reported that personnel from the National Ports and Airports Investigation Unit (UIPA), in coordination with the National Canine Unit (CRAC), analyzed the information on the container loaded with teak, the shipment was separated and an anti-drug inspection was carried out with the dog Shiro, who shortly after sniffing the drug gave a positive alert.
The value of the drug seized in Ecuador in the teak container would be around 56 million dollars in Europe, and the drug in the guayusa water bottles would have a value of more than 100 million.
There are no arrests in these cases. At the moment, investigative tasks are being carried out to determine responsibilities in the contamination of the shipments.
So far in 2022, 36 tons of drugs have been seized nationwide, most of them in the ports south of Guayaquil. (I)
