The Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN distributed among the members of the Security Council materials of the Investigative Committee and RT, in which the Ukrainian military is accused of committing crimes using prohibited methods of war.

According to RIA Novosti, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Vershinin said: “I ask you to look at these materials and ask you to be prepared that you will see something terrible.”

Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, speaking at a meeting of the Security Council, said that Russian troops were preparing to launch an invasion of Ukraine in the “next days”, and before the offensive, Russia, according to him, could “create a pretext” for this: it allegedly could be ” violent event” in Ukraine or “some kind of accusation against the Ukrainian government”.

UNN, citing CNN information, wrote that the Biden administration believes that Russia could try to use today’s meeting in the UN Security Council as such a “pretext”. According to an administration official, the Russian mission to the UN allegedly circulated among the members of the Security Council a document alleging the commission of war crimes during the armed conflict in the South-East of Ukraine.

In turn, the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, said that statements by Western authorities, including US President Joe Biden, about Russia’s alleged intention to attack Ukraine only intensify the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis.
