Residents of Estonia went to a demonstration in support of the integrity of Ukraine, which took place in front of the Russian embassy in Tallinn. It was attended by about 50 people who came with posters in three languages - Russian, Estonian and English – calling for the restoration of peace in Ukraine.
One of the protesters, who has been living in Estonia with her Ukrainian husband for more than forty years, is sure that many Russian citizens support the Ukrainians, but are afraid to express their protest, while it is much safer to do so in Estonia. “We also lived in the Soviet Union, we understand that people in Russia are afraid,” explains an elderly native of Ukraine.
“If you follow the logic by which Putin proves that Crimea is Russian territory, then it turns out that Estonia is even more so,” says a geography teacher from Tartu. – After all, the territory of modern Estonia was included in the Russian Empire in 1721, and the annexation of the modern territory of Crimea took place in 1783. Therefore, I believe that Ukrainians need to be supported, to show that we are on their side, even if this does not cause any reaction from the embassy.”
“We now live in a global world, the freedom and well-being of each person is connected with the freedom and well-being of other people,” emphasizes politician and publicist Andrei Kuzichkin. “And the well-being of Estonia also depends on the well-being of Ukraine. It is impossible to live next to a slave and be content. Putin wants to enslave Ukraine and restore the great Soviet Empire. And Ukraine is a real diamond for her.”
