The tour of the Mariinsky Ballet, which was supposed to take place at the Kennedy Center in Washington from April 26 to May 1, has been cancelled. The website of the center informs about it.
The cancellation of the tour, the site notes, is due to many factors, mainly the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Kennedy Center noted that they are looking forward to the visits of the Mariinsky Ballet in the coming seasons. Currently, other ballet companies will not perform there either.
The Mariinsky Ballet planned to show George Balanchine’s Jewels.
Previously, the opera and ballet dancers of the Mariinsky Theater complained about working hours after their colleagues came down with covid. The management ordered them to work 7-8 hours, six days a week. Rosbalt also wrote that an outbreak of coronavirus infection occurred in the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, almost four dozen people received positive tests – members of the orchestra, directors, singers.
It was also reported that the concert of the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra under the direction of Valery Gergiev in Rome was cancelled. It was canceled due to a positive test for COVID-19 by the conductor himself, as well as by pianist Daniil Trifonov.
On February 16, Gergiev’s daughter Natalya said that her father’s condition was satisfactory.
