The mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas, confirmed this Thursday morning, February 17, which It was already notified by the Comptroller General of the State about the complaint filed against him for alleged participation in a law firm in Panamaa country declared a tax haven for Ecuador.
The complaint was filed last week by the lawyer and university professor Alexander Rhodes, who maintains that Guarderas broke the law being a partner of Quevedo & Ponce, a firm dedicated to real estate issues in Panama.
According to Rodas, the mayor was denounced for alleged legal non-compliance in the Comptroller. He also presented at Pichincha Prosecutor’s Office an accusation for alleged crime of perjury.
However, regarding the latter, Santiago Guarderas did not confirm having been notified yet.
“These are issues that they are not discussed in the media; this is done in the competent bodies, before which I will exercise the right to defense. Due process will be applied and the whole truth will come to light,” Guarderas emphasized.
