The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation reported that they saw the risks of rising prices for milk and dairy products, bread, sugar and vegetables. According to Interfax, citing First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut, four commodity items were “under attack”.
So, she clarified, the price of bread did not grow very much last year, because the authorities provided a subsidy for 1 kg of bread in order to sell at retail at a virtually fixed price.
As for vegetables, the trend will continue until the new season, until the harvest. The increase in sugar prices, according to Loot, is due to the cessation of restrictive measures.
Speaking about the measures that are being taken to contain prices, the representative of the department said that subsidizing bakers will continue. To expand the production of vegetables, the emphasis is on private farms. In addition, this year a federal project for the development of vegetable and potato growing will be introduced for the organized sector, so there will be additional support measures.
“For sugar, we have agreed with the main producers that they will set a certain price for retail sales so that there is no abrupt growth,” Luth explained.
As for supporting prices for dairy products, the First Deputy Minister said that last year 10 billion rubles were allocated to support dairy farming for the purchase of feed. In 2022, it is also planned to support this measure.
