Belarus is engaged in counterfeiting potato seeds, passing off seeds from other countries as elite Belarusian varieties. Hrach Berberyan, chairman of the NGO Agrarian and Peasant Union of Armenia, stated this to Novosti Armenii.

According to him, Belarus claims to supply elite potato seeds to Armenia, but in reality it changes the labels and sells seeds from Europe to local farmers. Berberyan stressed that Belarusians have no right to pass off these products as their own, since they are the property of most Dutch companies.

Berberyan said he would urge Armenian and Russian farmers to refuse Belarusian seeds, despite the fact that the price of European products is higher. He also said that he appealed to the authorities of the country with a demand to tighten the import of seeds from Belarus.

Earlier, Belarusian Ambassador to Yerevan Alexander Konyuk was summoned to the Armenian Foreign Ministry. The reasons for the visit were not given by the ministry. The day before, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, in an interview with Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov, said that most of the countries of the post-Soviet space, including Armenia, which, according to him, “have nowhere to go,” can join the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
