Sociologists from the American University of New Hampshire found that vaccination against COVID-19 not only improves immunity, but also improves a person’s mental health. The results of the study were published in Science Daily.

More than 8 thousand people took part in the study, who filled out special questionnaires on a regular basis from March 2020 to June 2021. After analyzing the data, the sociologists concluded that for those subjects who were vaccinated at least once during this time, the stress from the risks of infection or getting into the hospital decreased by 7.77%. In addition, they had a 4.68% reduction in the risk of death.

Researchers believe that due to vaccination, people begin to feel more secure, less nervous and easier to endure stressful situations.

In their work, sociologists note that after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the level of anxiety and stress among the US population has increased dramatically. Factors such as loss of a job or income, lack of confidence in the future, social exclusion, the burden of caring for the sick, substance abuse and racial discrimination have all contributed to these processes.

Depressive symptoms persisted and intensified in 2021 in those who were unable to cope with stress. Not surprisingly, the study says, many people also experience so-called “anticipatory” fears, which eventually lead to mental health problems.

Earlier it became known that representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation will consider the possibility of including a psychiatrist’s consultation in the list of free services as part of an in-depth medical examination for citizens who have undergone coronavirus.
