Britain in the next few weeks will cancel the program of the so-called “golden visas”, writes the Financial Times, citing knowledgeable sources.

The interlocutors of the publication, close to the head of the British Ministry of Internal Affairs Priti Patel, said that the minister wants to abandon the entire regime of “golden visas” so that “those who launder illegal funds” do not use it.

Government officials confirmed to the publication that visas could be canceled “within a few weeks.”

The publication notes that the “investor visa” of the first level in the past attracted wealthy Russian and other international investors who moved to Britain thanks to this scheme. Since Britain’s relations with Russia deteriorated after the Salisbury incident in 2018, this regime has been under review. In particular, then-Foreign Minister Amber Rudd in 2018 asked officials to reconsider the basis on which more than 700 wealthy Russians received golden visas. After four years of delays, the government has pledged to publish its findings by April.
