A criminal case has been initiated against Academician of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Bagaev, who previously headed the Institute of Laser Physics in Novosibirsk, under the article on fraud on an especially large scale.
According to Sibkrai, a case was previously initiated against the director of the same institute, Alexei Taichenachev. He is suspected of abuse of power due to a fictitious contract for research and development work concluded with a commercial structure. The same agreement also became the reason for initiating a case against academician Bagaev.
According to investigators, Bagaev helped to conclude an agreement between the Institute of Laser Physics and the Laser Center for the development, assembly and adjustment of the optical system of the amplifier block for the CO-2 laser “Siberia-8MLP”. The contract value was 2 million rubles. Investigators believe that the contract obviously could not be executed, and Bagaev convinced Taichenachev to sign the contract.
Meanwhile, the Sovetsky District Court is currently hearing the case of Academician Alexander Aseev, the former head of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who is also charged under the article “Fraud” due to the privatization of a cottage. He consistently criticized the reform of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
