The earth was either formed with the water we have, or it was hit by something that is mostly pure water. This is reported by Psych.org, citing data from scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

According to the researchers, the work they have done excludes meteorites or asteroids as possible sources of water on Earth and “strongly points” to the possibility of the Earth’s birth already with water. Thus, as scientists suggest, water already existed at the stage of the formation of the Earth, and was not delivered to the planet later by some objects from space.

In addition to significantly narrowing the potential source of water on Earth, the work also shows that the large bodies that collided must have come from the inner solar system. According to scientists, this event could not have happened earlier than 4.45 billion years ago. The study was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Earlier, employees of the University of California approached the solution of the question of the presence of life on Mars. NASA’s Martian Reconnaissance Orbiter helped them with this, allowing them to date the age of salt minerals on the Red Planet.

The deposits of chloride salt are considered reliable evidence of the presence of water on ancient Mars. It was previously believed that the surface waters of Mars dried up about 3 billion years ago, but Californian astronomers have reduced this time period to 2-2.5 billion years. According to modern scientific concepts, in this era, the process of oxygen photosynthesis began on Earth, which led to the flourishing of life on our planet.
