Four dead and one injured after an accident and gunshot confrontation on the Esmeraldas-Rioverde highway

Four people died and another was injured after a gunfight and a traffic accident that occurred in the Colope compound, Camarones parish, on the E15 north Esmeraldas-Rioverde highway, on the night of this Sunday the 13th.

The event was recorded between men who were traveling in two vehicles on that road in the northern province of Ecuador. The incident was reported after 9:00 p.m. on Sunday the 13th by the Camarones police circuit, which received the emergency call from ECU911.

“Passing the Colope cemetery, people aboard two van-type vehicles, one white and one black, one with Colombian license plates, are shooting at each other” was the request for help received by the police officers.

Due to the shooting there was a traffic accident between a taxi and a car.

At the site, police officers identified one of the four people who died as Alejandro Rosero, 22, a taxi driver who carried out a passenger charter from the Borbón parish, north of the green province, and who died after the sinister road. Passing through Colope, he was hit by the vehicle with Colombian license plates.

His relatives said that the taxi driver would not be involved in this case of violence.

Meanwhile, the now deceased and the wounded were traveling in the Colombian license plate vehicle that was apparently being chased by another car, reported Javier Buitrón, commander of Subzone 8 of Esmeraldas, who arrived at the scene.

The wounded man is a 35-year-old foreigner who received four firearm projectiles that affected the part of the right clavicle, a fracture of the right ulna radius and in the buttocks.

Until last night, his clinical picture was stable since the bullets would not have compromised vital organs, according to the doctors of a sanatorium in Esmeraldas, where he was hospitalized.

Another of the deceased is also a taxi driver who, observing the traffic accident, got out to help the wounded, but on the spot he received several shots from firearms.

Police officers expected this morning to identify the other two fatalities who were transferred to the Zone 1 Forensic Center.

The attackers would have used long weapons according to the first ballistic evidence collected last night, said the police chief.

“We are in the first investigations, surveying evidence, our teams working in the territory. Apparently they are retaliation by criminal gangs that are in the sector, we have six criminal organizations, we are in a highly risky place, we are very close to the neighboring country of Colombia,” Buitrón commented at the scene of the incident.

Upon hearing the burst of shots, residents of Colope entered their homes and even the stores in the sector closed their doors.

Several residents still remember the murder of four people from this town on the night of Sunday, April 18, 2021.

At that time, the victims were attacked while having fun at a family gathering in a place located on the Esmeraldas-San Lorenzo highway.
