In less than an hour, between 4:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. this Saturday, February 12, three men were killed in three sectors of Guayaquil.
Erwin Patricio Uvidia Figueroa was shot in a yellow car, while giving a taxi service to a woman. This event was recorded in block 3 of the Unión de Bananeros cooperative, in the Guasmo Sur sector, an area where 31 violent deaths have been recorded so far in 2022.
The passenger was injured with two bullet wounds: one in the left cheekbone of her face and another in the lung, according to the information provided to the Police by the doctors who attended her at the Guasmo hospital..
The report of this new violent death was received by ECU911, an entity that alerted the Police to go to the site. There, the injured woman would have indicated to the uniformed officers that she had taken the taxi to go to that area in the south of the city.
Before reaching their destination, according to the passenger’s version, some subjects on a black motorcycle approached the vehicle and shot the driver several times, who lost control and crashed into a house.
Uvidia, who in 2017 was sentenced to twelve months in prison for being an accomplice in a robbery, died in the vehicle. While the passenger has a reserved prognosis at the health home.
A few minutes before this criminal act, Around 4:45 p.m., another man was shot to death in the Flor de Bastión sector, block 9.
Residents of the sector commented that a man on a motorcycle would have carried out several detonations with a firearm against the victim, identified as Jaime Rafael Sánchez Pincay, 33, who in 2021 was declared innocent of the crime of kidnapping and in 2020 was dismissed by the crime of trafficking in illicit substances.
The Fire Department approached the site, but the paramedics only confirmed the death of the man.
Almost an hour later, at 5:30 p.m., the third murder victim this afternoon was reported. This is José Carlos Quishpi Valla, 37, who was shot several times in the Horizonte del Fortín sector, in Monte Sinaí, northwest of the city.
According to residents of the sector, as happened in the two previous murders, two subjects on a motorcycle approached the man and shot him several times.
Criminalistics and Dinased personnel went to the three sectors to collect the evidence and start the investigations into these three violent deaths.
Until February 11, 139 murders have been registered in zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón). Nationwide, more than 400 violent deaths have been reported. (I)
