Roscosmos has shown an animation of the flight of the giant asteroid 138971, which is about 1.3 km in diameter – four times the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This celestial body will fly past Earth on March 4th.

The dimensions of the asteroid make it possible to classify it as permanently dangerous. But you should not worry – at the moment of closest approach, the distance between it and the Earth will be 4.8 million kilometers, 10 times greater than the distance from the Earth to the Moon.

In the video released by Roscosmos, 138971 is shown as a moving dot in the right half of the frame.

Earlier, the American Aeronautics and Space Administration – NASA warned about the approach of a celestial giant, saying that the asteroid was moving at a speed of over 43 thousand km / h, which is close to the speed of a space rocket.

Asteroid 138971 was discovered in February 2001 by Italian astronomer Gianluca Masi. He took a picture of it with a ground-based telescope when the asteroid was more than 34.6 million kilometers from Earth.
