In Ecuador annually has 11 days off because the Holiday Law has been in force since 2016, which determines the mandatory rest days for all Ecuadorians. Those days correspond to national holidays and one more day of local civic holidays, that is, 12 each year in each province.
By joining these 11 days with the weekends, in the year 2022 there will be 29 days off, nationwide.
There are two longer holidays: Carnival, on Monday, February 28 and Tuesday, March 1, which joins Saturday, February 26 and Sunday, February 27, 2022.
The other novelty of the next Carnival holiday in Ecuador is that the president Guillermo Lasso made official, via decree, the reduction of VAT to 8% for Carnival and Easter holidays. The reduction will apply to all tourist services that have a tourist registration and seeks to revitalize the sector so hard hit by COVID-19.
And in November the remembrance of the Dead, which is postponed to Friday 4, thus joining Thursday 3 November, the date of Cuenca’s independence. This holiday is complemented by the Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 November 2022.
Another important holiday, which coincides with the vacation season of the Costa regime, is Easter, which includes the days Friday 15, Saturday 16 and Sunday April 17 of this year 2022.
The regulations of the Law established that if a holiday falls on a Saturday, the mandatory rest will go to the previous Friday, and if it is Sunday, to the following Monday. If it falls on Tuesday, the holiday is moved to the previous Monday.
In addition, holidays that fall on Wednesday or Thursday will be moved to Friday of that week. Dates such as Carnival, Christmas and New Year are excepted.
When there are local or national holidays on two consecutive days, these will correspond to Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday. (I)
