Chone, MANABI

The El Jardín bridge officially began operating on the night of this Friday, February 11. It is located between Ulpiano Páez and Av. Eloy Alfaro.

This viaduct was built to decongest the vehicular traffic that is generated on the Otto Arosemena bridge, which is an entry and exit bridge and where 14,000 vehicles pass daily, according to Leonardo Rodriguez, mayor of Chone.

This work was executed by the construction company Ranicor. It cost $2,027,000, including inspection and improvement of the Paseo Colón Arteaga, it was indicated. It is 40 meters long; 15.5 meters wide, and 2.5 meters high. This work will speed up mobility, it was highlighted.

The El Jardín bridge has cycle-inclusive spaces, with trees, a double entry lane to the city, protection fences, signage, roads, green areas, LED lighting, burying cables, a ramp for people with disabilities, among other details. In addition, the entrances will be decorated with street furniture and gardening. The change of tertiary networks was also made in the houses near the El Jardín bridge.

For Reinaldo Triviño, a 63-year-old driver from Chon, the El Jardín bridge is a place full of history and it was necessary to transform it to create a space in keeping with the modernity of these times.

The previous bridge was built in 1940, that is, more than 80 years. Therefore, it had already fulfilled its useful life. It was only used for pedestrians and it was necessary to rebuild a new one, without losing its essence and adapting to what the city requires, Triviño said.

For Mayor Leonardo Rodríguez, this work also recovers the riverbanks of the area, since more trees were planted in the surroundings, which will beautify the place. There are also better spaces for the coexistence, tradition and connection of the Chonenses, he added.

When the El Jardín bridge comes into operation, the public company Chone Vial has coordinated a mobility plan that will allow vehicular traffic to flow in a better way.

The bridge’s lanes are unidirectional, moving towards the city center, while the Otto Arosemena bridge will also become unidirectional, heading towards Eloy Alfaro Avenue, leaving the city. (I)
