Director General of the Bolshoi Theater Vladimir Urin spoke about the opponents of the published draft decree of the President of the Russian Federation on changing the foundations of the cultural policy of the Russian Federation.
According to him, the artistic directors of Russian theaters, who in their letter supported the head of the STD of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kalyagin, who criticized the bill, “have no objections to the need to take into account the traditional values of the development of our culture in matters of culture and art.” Urin also recalled that this has long been “clearly formulated and exists today” in the foundations of public policy.
As the general director of the Bolshoi Theater noted, the new document, which provides for the creation of a coordinating body of ideological control, “gives the possibility of quite serious arbitrariness to state officials who hold certain posts.” According to Urin, we can actually talk about the introduction of “the concept of censorship from their own understanding of traditional values.” In this regard, the cultural figure noted that art is always a search and an experiment, therefore, “any new one will be perceived as a failure to preserve traditional values,” Teatral reports.
Earlier, one of the authors of the project, Vladimir Aristarkhov, called the heads of Russian theaters who supported Kalyagin “parasites”. The head of the STD of the Russian Federation criticized the proposals of the Ministry of Culture to change the foundations of the cultural policy of the Russian Federation, considering that everything comes down to total control.
