Two agents of the National Police are investigated for the escape of one of two adolescents who were detained for alleged possession of firearms, in a sector of the city of Esmeraldas, early this Thursday.
One of the minors, aged 17 and 16, left the offices of the Community Surveillance Unit (UVC) located next to the command of Subzone 8 of Esmeraldas, around 03:00.
They were taken to the UVC for investigations and apparently they took advantage of an oversight to leave. The agents in charge of the custody realized that they were not there and with other police officers they began the search.

One of them had hidden in a desk in the second-floor office of the Surveillance Unit.
The other teenager disappeared from the place taking advantage of the darkness of the early morning, it transpired. Due to this incident, the two agents were detained at the order of their superiors for investigations and this case was reported to the prosecutor on duty.
In August 2019, the detainee for alleged sexual offense MCJE, alias Onion, escaped from this UVC after he was taken to the Judicial Police by his custodian, but in an oversight, he took the opportunity to go out through one of the windows. After 18 hours he was recaptured. (I)
