Any modern car battery needs periodic replacement about once every three to four years – that’s how long it “lives” in the Russian climate. Anton Shaparin, vice-president of the National Automobile Union, spoke about this on Sputnik radio.
According to him, “a car battery is a short-lived thing.” “It needs periodic replacement. This should be done about once every three to four years, because the plates degrade in the batteries. This means that the battery can drain much faster in cold weather. This process begins already in the second or third year of battery life, and for all manufacturers, regardless of the price of this product, ”the expert explained.
He advises to change the battery at the first sign of a drop in the charge level, so that equipment failure does not become a problem at a critical moment. “The key problem in winter is that the battery does not allow you to start the car with one turn. If in the cold your car has become difficult to start, then it is better to change the battery. Do not expect that in a critical situation you will not be able to start the car. The battery is one of those devices on which you can not save. It must be changed immediately when the need arises,” Shaparin is convinced.
At the same time, he noted, if you still want to save money, you can remove the battery from the car during long periods of inactivity, especially in winter, in order to extend its service life. “If the car is supposed to sit outside for a long time in winter, then I would suggest removing the battery from the car if possible. Take it home, and before the trip, charge it with a special device (which can be connected to a regular outlet – ed.). I have such a device, and in the winter it has repeatedly helped me, ”summed up the expert.
We also recall that earlier Pavel Sidorov, the service director of one of the divisions of the Avilon group, told what to do if the “anti-freeze” froze.
