In Russia, the number of customers with an active credit card jumped 20.5% last year to 20.5 million, the Izvestia newspaper reports from the United Credit Bureau (UCB).

At the same time, the publication states, the share of the most indebted citizens has also grown: in the fourth quarter of 2021, among those clients who took a new loan, 16% already had four or more loans, although in the pre-pandemic 2019 there were only 12%.

The banks confirmed the growth of debt load of citizens. According to market participants, this is due to an increase in demand against the backdrop of a recovery in consumer activity, an imminent increase in rates and high inflation.

Recall also, on the eve it became known that the term for issuing unsecured loans in Russia may be limited to five years, and banks will be required to include any payments in favor of the lender in the calculation of the total cost of loans and offer alternative loan options without purchasing additional services. The corresponding bill is planned to be adopted in the spring session of the State Duma.
