Officials in the administration of US President Joe Biden have warned senators that Iran has two months to produce enough material for a nuclear weapon. This is reported by the newspaper Politico.
Such calculations, presented to Biden at a secret briefing, were called by the administration “sobering and shocking” – in light of the fact that American diplomats are just trying to conclude a deal with Tehran that should not allow it to acquire nuclear weapons.
Earlier it was reported that negotiations with Iran on returning to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program have reached the final stage. The US State Department said that the parties have no more than a few weeks to reach an agreement.
The State Department official stressed that the talks “cannot go on forever” and called the time limit “a demand” that the US “has conveyed to Iran and to all members of the 5+1 group.” He stressed that in the remaining few weeks, Tehran must “make a political decision as to whether it intends to return to the JCPOA.”
