On Tuesday, February 15, talks will begin between representatives of the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (Miduvi) and representatives of the Government of China, with the aim of finalizing the donation agreement for 2,932 homes for those affected by the 2016 earthquake in the localities of Muisne (Esmeraldas) and in Canoa and Pedernales (Manabí).
Darío Herrera, head of the Miduvi, made the announcement this Thursday the 10th during a visit to the Santa Ana canton. The official also spoke about a housing plan that will be built in that area of Manabi.
“This is a donation that was originally signed on October 20, 2016, and from that year until now, due to the lack of management of past administrations, it was never possible to receive this donation from the Chinese Government to build these homes for the victims. of the earthquake,” said Herrera.
In September 2020, Miduvi announced that 1,732 homes will be built in Pedernales, 1,100 in Muisne and another 100 in the Canoa parish, belonging to the Manabi canton of San Vicente.
On that occasion, the State portfolio indicated that the investment of the Chinese Government would be 53.7 million dollars, and would include the construction of houses and urbanizations, while the Ecuadorian counterpart would be 19.2 million dollars that would be destined to studies, designs, expropriation of land, feasibility of services, inspection and complementary works.
They donate houses for those affected by the earthquake in Manabí
Robert Castro, president of the Association of Municipalities of Ecuador (AME) Regional 4, said that in the case of Jama, where he is mayor, the effects reached some 1,200 families and only about 700 obtained new homes.
Minister Herrera indicated that through financing of 19 million dollars obtained through the French Development Agency, several housing projects will be built in the country.
One of them will be carried out in the Lodana parish, in Santa Ana, which will be destined for some 120 families. This project will cost approximately three million dollars.
Orlando García, mayor of Santa Ana, pointed out that the Municipality donated a 4.2-hectare plot of land in the Lodana parish to carry out this housing project for 120 families.
For the construction of this housing plan, 2.5 hectares of the donated land will be occupied.
The remaining area will remain as a land bank, that is, a land destined for the exclusive purpose of housing construction, García said. (I)
