Fisherman used a poma as a buoy to save himself from shipwreck; his brother is missing in San Vicente

Sucre, MANABI

On Wednesday night, an artisanal fishing boat from San Vicente, Manabí province, with two occupants, turned in front of El Napo beach. One of them managed to reach the shore with the help of a poma that he used as a buoy. So far the other occupant is missing.

The fishermen are the brothers Orlando, 37 years old, and Humberto Mero Rivero, 2 years old, the latter is missing.

Orlando was assisted by lifeguards from the Fire Department, National Police and the Navy. He did not deserve to be transferred to a hospital, according to the assessment of the paramedics.

The man said that the sea was calm and that from one moment to another the canoe turned, so he grabbed a plastic bottle that had fuel for the engine.

He narrated that due to the darkness of the night he could not do anything for his brother, who asked for help. This event occurred around 10:00 p.m. (I)
