The meeting of the State Duma working group on the legislative regulation of cryptocurrencies will be held on February 17. About this, as the correspondent of “Rosbalt” reports, said State Duma deputy Alexander Yakubovsky.

“The main question is whether this time representatives of federal ministries will have a common position on what cryptocurrency is, whether mining should be legalized, and so on. At the last meeting (held in December – approx. Rosbalt), the opinions of the federal executive authorities were completely different, ”said Yakubovsky.

It is assumed that the meeting will discuss the proposal of the Central Bank to ban any transactions with cryptocurrencies. At the same time, the government advocates the formation of a legal cryptocurrency market in Russia.

The State Duma is also preparing proposals for the protection of citizens in this area, Yakubovsky added. “In fact, we must enable people to legally transfer funds to electronic platforms, buy cryptocurrency and also legally withdraw it, and pay taxes on these turnovers. At the same time, the state must see the origin and legality of the funds and the purposes for which they are directed in order to exclude the financing of criminal acts,” the deputy said.

Recall that at the end of January, the President of the Russian Federation at a meeting with members of the government instructed to come to a consensus on the regulation of the cryptocurrency market in Russia.
