Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Serhiy Kislitsa doubted that Russia is able to document its rights to permanent membership in the Security Council of this organization. This is reported by the newspaper “European truth”.
According to him, Russia entered the Security Council as a successor country of the USSR, without going through the procedure for joining this organization, provided for by the internal rules of the UN.
“I can only state that I have never seen a decision that someone, in principle, voted for Russia’s membership either in the Security Council or in the UN General Assembly,” said the diplomat, who assesses Russia’s participation in Security Council meetings as “blasphemy”. – But it will be possible to offer a way out of this situation only after the UN at least admits the mistake and opens the concealed documents.”
It is not the first time that representatives of Ukraine have expressed doubts about Russia’s membership in the UN Security Council, although the Russian Federation is not only a permanent member of the Security Council, but also one of the founding countries of the UN. At the same time, among the original members of the UN were the Ukrainian and Byelorussian SSRs, which at that time were not full-fledged internationally recognized states. As successors to the Soviet republics, they retain their UN membership to this day.
