The mayor of the western Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Martsinkiv, announced his readiness to host the US Embassy in his city. He announced this in a video message posted on his own Facebook.
Martsinkiv clarified that the city authorities are preparing a corresponding letter, and also added that Ivano-Frankivsk agrees to accept other diplomatic institutions. According to him, a locomotive repair plant could be a suitable place for the US embassy.
On Monday, February 7, the BuzzFeed portal, citing sources, reported that the US Embassy in Kiev is considering the option of moving to the western regions of the country due to the escalation of the situation around Ukraine. There have been no official announcements in this regard yet. At the same time, US President Joe Biden reiterated that it is most reasonable for American citizens to leave Ukraine.
Ruslan Martsinkiv is also known for other extravagant statements. In particular, he presents himself as a supporter of conservative values, who believes that only a Christian can be a true patriot, calls on fellow citizens to take a closer look at the example of Poland, which banned abortions, and also promised a 100,000 hryvnia bonus to the first city woman who becomes pregnant after being vaccinated against COVID -19, although he later admitted that it was “just a joke.”
