Government began process to transfer the Manta airport to the Municipality

The Municipality of Manta received this Wednesday the resolution for the transfer of the Manta airport. The Civil Aviation Directorate, a state entity, began the process of handing over that terminal as part of the provisions of the Executive.

During the government of Lenín Moreno, the management of that terminal had been delegated to a South Korean consortium, but the administration of Guillermo Lasso annulled that process. From that, the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works had promised to transfer that airport to the council.

The Director General of Civil Aviation, William Birkett Mórtola, delivered Resolution No. DGAC-DGAC-2022-0013-R with which the transfer process of the jurisdiction of the General Eloy Alfaro airport begins.

Municipality of Manta will assume the delegation process of the Eloy Alfaro airport

The transfer includes the powers determined in article 1 of the Civil Aviation Law, with the exception of air navigation areas and services. This implies that the control of the airspace, such as the work carried out in the control towers, will be in charge of the DGAC.

In order not to interrupt the provision of the public air transport service, the DGAC will continue to operate and manage the airport until all the administrative acts are carried out so that the Municipality of Manta assumes the administration.

Manta currently receives commercial flights from Avianca and Latam airlines. The latter has even requested permits from the Civil Aviation Council authorities to increase the number of frequencies. (I)
