Brazilian Vice President Antonio Murau believes that President Jair Bolsonaro’s planned February trip to Russia will not cause any difficulties, despite reports of pressure from Washington in connection with this visit. The vice president stated this in an interview with Valor.

“The United States is showing its power of deterrence. It has always been so. I don’t know the real content of[US Secretary of State Anthony]Blinken’s conversation with Minister Carlos Franca. But it’s all right. The trip will not cause any difficulties, ”RBC quotes Murau.

According to him, Brazil is not involved in the Ukrainian conflict, but calls for a peaceful settlement.

Recall that on February 1, the Folha de Sao Paulo edition claimed that Washington, including in the person of Blinken, is putting pressure on Bolsonaro, seeking to cancel his trip to Russia.

Back in December last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Bolsonaro to visit Moscow, and the Brazilian leader confirmed his intention to come in February.

The journalists of the publication saw in the actions of Washington an attempt to isolate Putin against the backdrop of tensions between Moscow and NATO around Ukraine.

We also note that back in November-December 2021, the world media was filled with the topic of the alleged Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions that should follow. According to the authors and experts of these publications, a sign of “invasion” is the concentration of Russian military equipment in the regions bordering Ukraine. Among the likely sanctions were both the shutdown of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, as well as restrictions against Russian energy companies, and the shutdown of the SWIFT international interbank settlement system.
