The Ministry of Justice demanded through the court to liquidate the St. Petersburg charitable foundation for social and legal assistance “Sphere” (included in the register of NGOs that act as foreign agents), which supports LGBT people. According to the joint press service of the courts of the Northern capital, officials refer to traditional values in support of their demands.
According to the authorities, the organization commits “gross and multiple violations of the legislation of the Russian Federation, mostly of an unrecoverable nature.” The lawsuit contains arguments about supporting the LGBT movement in Russia, spreading such views, involving minors in the movement, funding to change the law regarding LGBT people.
“All the activities of the Sphere run counter to the state policy aimed at preserving, increasing and developing human capital, taking into account the territorial settlement. The activities of LGBT communities and their activists are aimed at a large-scale and conceptual change in the perception of the institution of the family, traditional family values in terms of gender identity,” the Ministry of Justice believes.
According to officials, the organization should be liquidated because it poses a “threat to public order and the rule of law.”
The materials of the case were transferred to the Kuibyshevsky District Court of St. Petersburg. The application has not yet been accepted for production.
Let us add that the Sphere Foundation was included in the register of foreign agents on March 1, 2016.
As a reminder, on December 28, the Supreme Court of Russia liquidated the international historical and educational society “Memorial” (included in the register of NGOs that act as foreign agents).
