RosdorNII, which is under the Ministry of Transport, has proposed introducing a number of innovations designed to improve the safety of pedestrians on the roadway. It is reported by “Kommersant”.
Among the innovations that will be included in the updated GOST, among other things, were such concepts as “refuge”, “divertor” and “chicane”. In particular, chicanes (a term from Formula 1) in the new document are called intersections raised above the carriageway with a speed limit of 20-40 km / h. Experts also suggest reducing the number of lanes or narrowing them, organizing a “zigzag” movement of cars using special islands.
According to experts, the new standards will help “calm down the movement” of traffic and protect pedestrians on the roadway. The institute hopes that the draft of the updated GOST will be approved by the end of the year.
The publication clarifies that at the moment the requirements for pedestrian safety are mentioned in several GOSTs, but there is no single regulatory document. Vladislav Elizarov, chief specialist of the road safety department of RosdorNII, told Kommersant that the problem of pedestrian safety in Russia is more relevant than ever. According to him, in the total number of accidents, pedestrians hit 26%, and over 11 months of last year, pedestrians suffered more than 32,000 accidents.
