A baby of about five months was allegedly abandoned by her mother on the night of this Monday, February 7, in Guasmo Sur, in Guayaquil.
The woman was walking down a street of the Unión de Bananeros cooperative with the baby in her arms and approached an elderly man who was standing outside her house.
She asked him for a lodging and, given the man’s refusal, she asked him to lend her the bathroom and before entering she asked him to hold the girl for her.
According to the man, when the woman left the bathroom and he was going to give her daughter to her, she left the house saying that she was leaving her.
The man asked one of his granddaughters to help take care of the girl while he went out to look for the woman. He then approached a nearby Community Police Unit (UPC). A patrol car went out to look for the minor’s mother.
Captain Andrés Rivadeneira, chief Dinapen (Minors Police) of zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón), was notified of the case, who came to rescue the baby.
He mentioned that it is presumed that the mother of the minor could be a consumer and reiterated that she was searched all night by the agents in the sector.
After not finding her in the area, they coordinated with the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion (MIES) so that the baby is admitted to a foster home.
The minor was taken to the Francisco de Ycaza Bustamante hospital, where they carried out tests, which determined that she is in good health.
Rivadeneira indicated that the documents for the search for the mother and analysis of the conditions in which the minor was with her were going to be issued.
The ECU911 integrated system reported 230 calls at the national level of abandonment of children and adolescents from January to October of last year.
In Guayas, 28 of these cases were concentrated, in Imbabura 28, in Morona Santiago 27, in Pichincha 23 and in the rest of the provinces 124. (I)
