As already reported by Rosbalt, on February 7, the presidents of France and Russia held talks. Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron talked for more than five hours.
The French president came to, during a personal meeting with his Russian colleague, somehow extinguish the tension in relations between Russia and the West and prevent Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Macron later said that he managed to agree with Russian President Vladimir Putin that there would be no escalation of the conflict around Ukraine.
This, of course, is high-profile news and not the only one from these negotiations. But that wasn’t what attracted the general public. A photograph of the scene of communication between the leaders of the two countries. Here’s what it looked like…
This is an official photo from the website of the President of the Russian Federation. And it is clearly made at an angle and does not convey the whole perspective, but it also shows how far the interlocutors were from each other.
Later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that the choice of the negotiating table between the presidents of Russia and France, Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron, was related to the current situation with the coronavirus in the world.
“Exclusively epidemiological measures,” Putin’s spokesman explained.
After such a spectacle, even the reputable French newspaper Liberation could not resist beating this demonstratively long table.
