France must build security and stability in Europe, and for this, not just new, but even “innovative” solutions can be used. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron tonight during a briefing after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The French leader expressed confidence that there is an opportunity “to build security and stability in Europe, confirming the developments that we have within the OSCE.” “But we also need to build new solutions, perhaps they should be innovative,” RBC quotes Macron.

However, he warned that the adjustment of agreements on stability and security in Europe should not go to the detriment of European countries.

For his part, Putin indicated that the dialogue with the United States and NATO on security guarantees for the Russian Federation was not over. According to the Russian leader, in Washington’s recent response to Moscow, “there is no position” on all key issues, such as the non-proliferation of NATO, the non-deployment of strike systems near the borders of the Russian Federation, the return of NATO infrastructure by 1997. “They were simply bypassed,” Putin lamented.

Recall that at the end of 2021, Russia presented its vision of security in Europe to the United States. On January 26, US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan handed over Washington’s written response to Russia’s proposals for security guarantees.

Later that day, State Department Secretary Anthony Blinken told a briefing that the US response to Russian security guarantee proposals included Washington’s concerns about Moscow’s actions and the US proposal.

“We have clearly indicated that there are basic principles that we will uphold and defend, including the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as the right of states to choose their security measures and alliances,” he explained.

For his part, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg clarified that the alliance handed over its terms to Russia “in parallel with the United States.” According to him, NATO’s response to Russia’s European security initiatives includes Ukraine and the situation around it. NATO Secretary General once again called on Moscow to “de-escalate”. Also, he added, Russia should withdraw its troops from Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.
