Investigators have charged five employees of the St. Petersburg medical center, where patients died after examining the stomach. According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, criminal cases have been opened on causing death by negligence (part 3 of article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as the provision of unsafe services (part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
In addition to the head physician, the head of the department and the head nurse, two deputy head physicians became the defendants in the investigation. Their names have not yet been released.
“The issue of choosing a measure of restraint for him is being decided,” the press service specified.
Recall that in the GKDC No. 1 in the period from December 2021 to January 2022, seven patients died after examining the stomach, more than 20 people were injured. The materials of the criminal cases mention a counterfeit drug, the purchase of which, according to the investigation, was approved by the head physician Yevgeny Popov. Elena Malysheva, head of the department of radiation diagnostics, allowed the staff to use the drug, although she knew that it was not a medicine, the prosecution believes.
Both physicians are now in custody. The court denied them house arrest. Malysheva partially admitted her guilt.
