A meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian head of state Vladimir Putin in Moscow is unlikely to “decisively turn the tide” on tensions in Europe. This, according to RBC, said the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“In fact, it is obvious that the topic of tension in Europe related to the situation around Ukraine, the topic of security guarantees for Russia, will absolutely dominate,” he said.

“Of course, the situation is too complicated to expect decisive changes in the course of one meeting, but we know, and Macron himself told Putin about this, that he is coming with certain ideas to find possible options for defusing tensions in Europe,” the presidential press secretary added. Russia.

The meeting between Putin and Macron will begin at 17:00 Moscow time. A working lunch and a joint press conference are expected.

Macron, on the eve of his visit to Moscow, expressed the opinion, according to Kommersant, that the normalization of any conflict without dialogue with Russia is impossible. Speaking about the escalation in the south-east of Ukraine, he called for reducing tensions “through dialogue in order to avoid armed conflict.”
