President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed amendments to the law, which deprives his predecessor Nursultan Nazarbayev of the right to hold the post of chairman of the Security Council and the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan for life.

This was reported on the website of the head of state.

The amendments to the law eliminate the need to coordinate domestic and foreign policy issues, as well as personnel appointments, with Nazarbayev. Nevertheless, the first president of the republic and the former head of the Security Council has the right to speak before parliament, be a member of the Constitutional Council, hold the post of honorary senator, and attend government meetings.

Nazarbayev voluntarily handed over the post of head of the Security Council to the current head of state in early January, during the mass unrest that swept Kazakhstan. Soon the former president disappeared for quite a long time, which gave rise to various hypotheses about his whereabouts, but in the end it turned out that he was in Kazakhstan.
