The European Union, in cooperation with the United States, plans to solve the problem of transatlantic energy security and help Ukraine ensure its security, EU diplomat Josep Borrell said in a blog post.
In a message that Borrell released before leaving for a meeting of the EU-US Energy Council in Washington, he stressed that the EU must not only ensure its own energy sustainability, but do the same for Ukraine. In his opinion, this requires increased investment in the country’s renewable energy sources and improved links with the EU energy market.
From the European-American meeting in Washington, Borrell expects “even closer coordination of the energy market reforms needed in Ukraine the day before with the European electricity grid planned for 2023.”
In addition, the head of European diplomacy noted that the EU and the US will also work to increase reverse flows within the existing gas transportation infrastructure in Europe, but ultimately reliable, affordable and safe energy will come from decarbonized energy systems.
