Russian consulates and embassies will work in the US “until the last diplomat”. This was stated on the air of the Soloviev Live program by Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov.

“I want to say this without pathos, to say clearly and clearly: we will work here to the last diplomat and do everything to defend national interests, while trying to normalize Russian-American relations,” he said.

Antonov recalled that by June 30 another 28 Russian diplomats would be forced to leave the United States.

Last year, a group of U.S. senators asked U.S. President Joe Biden to take immediate action to increase the number of staff at the U.S. embassy in Moscow and expel 300 Russian diplomats from the country if Russia refuses. The authors of the appeal indicated that on August 1, 2021, Russia imposed a ban on the work of any local personnel at the US Embassy in Moscow. This, according to the senators, endangers the day-to-day activities of the diplomatic mission. The senators noted that there are more than 400 Russian diplomats in the United States, while the US diplomatic mission in Russia currently has only about 100 Americans. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the call by US senators to expel 300 Russian diplomats from the United States is emotional. Peskov also stated that “they, apparently, do not even know how many Russian diplomats work there.”
