Two well-known car brands – Smart and Chrysler – left the Russian car market last year, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) records.
The stamps turned out to be unpopular with Russian drivers. The latest Smart ForFour hatchback and two Pacifica minivans from Chrysler (in a hybrid version) were sold back in 2021, Autonews reports.
Moreover, according to the AEB, this year Honda is going to leave the Russian market, which has one model left from the entire range – the CR-V crossover. The company announced the decision more than a year ago, but experts have ceased to be skeptical of this statement only now.
We also recall that, according to AEB estimates, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in Russia decreased in January 2022 by 3.7% year-on-year (after falling by 19.9% in December, 20.4% in November, 18.1% in October, 22.6% in September, by 17% in August, by 6.5% in July last year) to 91.662 thousand units.
Thus, sales have been declining for the seventh month in a row.
Commenting on the results, Thomas Stärzel, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, pointed out that “January is traditionally a month of low sales of new cars”. “As expected, in 2022 the trend of a slight market decline continued,” the expert complained.
We add that at the end of 2021, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial (LCV) vehicles in Russia last year increased by 4.3% compared to 2020 to 1.667 million units, but fell in December by 19.9% to 133, 47 thousand units.
