The North Atlantic Alliance is studying the possibility of building a gas pipeline between Spain and Germany, the Vanguardia newspaper reports.
The pipeline is expected to carry gas from Algeria to Central Europe, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) for storage and processing at eight regasification facilities in Spain and Portugal, PRIME reported.
As noted, the potential launch of the project is an attempt to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian gas supplies.
Recall that earlier German Vice-Chancellor, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habek warned that the commissioning of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline would increase dependence on Russian gas.
At the same time, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, hinted that the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline “will depend” on the position of Russia, which is exerting “military pressure” on Ukraine.
And earlier it became known that Ukraine and Poland would build a gas pipeline and fight Nord Stream 2.
Meanwhile, as of the end of January, less than 20% of the gas pumped there in the summer of 2021 remained in the underground gas storage facilities of the EU.
