Hail and heavy rains wreak havoc in areas of Carchi; floods are reported in Loja

In several areas of Carchi and Loja floods are registered due to the heavy rains that have occurred in recent days.

This Friday 22 there were heavy rains in the cantonal head of Catamayo. The heavy rainfall led to the clogging of sewers, accumulation of mud, stone material, garbage and debris that the water from the highest sectors carried with it.

Several streets in the center of the city were flooded, even the water entered some shops and homes.

“From the upper part a large amount of sediment has come down to the city. We are doing a cleaning minga with all the workers and employees of the Municipality to clean the streets. In the San José parish there have been damages with a wall and a rock. We hope to control this type of disaster with the works that are being carried out ”, said Jorge Ludeña, representative of the Department of Public Works of the Municipality of Catamayo.

Even the street outside the airport in this city, the main entrance for passengers to this province, was affected by sediment remains on its road.
