The launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will increase dependence on Russian gas. This opinion was expressed by the Vice-Chancellor of Germany, the Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habek, the Funke edition will move.
“Geopolitically, Nord Stream 2 not only increases its dependence on Russian gas, but also its concentration on a vulnerable supply route,” Khabek emphasized.
He did not rule out that Russia could use the gas pipeline against Germany. “The last few weeks and the conflict in eastern Ukraine have increased our concern that Russia will also use its gas supplies against German interests,” the minister said.
He added that if the Russian Federation attacks Ukraine, then “any sanctions are possible that will force Russia to leave.”
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock threatened to include Nord Stream 2 in the list of sanctions in the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. She explained that Germany seeks “at any time for dialogue, but in light of the current situation, toughness is required.”
